Cult of Paint is a group of passionate painters who want to support and drive forward the miniature painting hobby - through in-person classes, private tuition, online tuition, painting competitions, collaborations with industry leaders, and much more.

MPO: Online and MPO: BRISTOL are how we bring all of this together - hosting events that truly celebrate our incredible hobby.

Miniature Painting Open 2021

The Miniature Painting Open was born during the strange times of 2020. We missed being together as a painting community - admiring models, sharing techniques, and celebrating miniature art. So we launched an online competition in 2021 to bring hobbyists from around the world together and give them a platform to showcase the pieces they had been working on.

We had no idea how far it would reach - over 2,000 entries later, it was clear the community was ready and waiting for something like this.

MPO Bristol 2024

In 2023, we relaunched the MPO as a regular annual online competition, this time with plans for a dedicated in-person event. That dream became reality with MPO: BRISTOL 2024, held at the Engine Shed in Bristol. The event featured multiple categories, a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, and a judging panel hand-picked by Andy for their experience, insight, and distinct artistic styles. Lighting was generously supplied by The Daylight Company, ensuring every model was shown in its best light.

MPO Bristol 2025

In 2025, we moved to the Bristol Beacon to accommodate growing demand. With more space, more entries, more guests, and more interaction, MPO: BRISTOL 2025 set a new benchmark for what a miniature painting event can be. We also expanded the judging team, bringing in even more diverse perspectives - including Arnau Lázaro, the 2024 Best of Show winner, who returned in 2025 as one of our invited judges.

Now, with MPO: BRISTOL 2026 officially announced - once again taking place at the Bristol Beacon - we continue to build on everything we've learned.

Whether online or in-person, the Miniature Painting Open is for everyone. With multiple categories and three judging levels - Beginner, Standard, and Master - there’s a place for painters of all experience levels to take part, learn, and be inspired.
